From Pre I to 12th Grade: Educational Program Extends its Activities

Following the mission of constantly fostering Art fulfillment for Chapel students, the last edition of the educational program was extended to all grade levels. “This year of celebrations, the educational goal was special because it was the first time we had all the students participating on hands-on activities”, states Adriana Rede, Art Show curator.

Having the honored artist, German Lorca, present at every show provided a unique experience for the students. They had the opportunity to talk to him about techniques and processes used in order to capture images, in addition to listening to the stories behind each click.

“We could feel German’s empathy with the audience, but mainly with the students”, explains Ms. Rede. During the chat with the 11th and 12th graders, the photographer was applauded twice, showing an immense excitement as students heard experiences of 70 years of his profession.

German Lorca also had an amazing experience with the younger grades. He called the students, who were visiting the Art Show, to chat and exchanged ideas about the Art pieces.

The second edition of the Educational Magazine for ECEC and ES students was also launched during the event. It was coordinated by Elissa Khoury Daher and Maria Elena Sykora Gutauskas. The issue contains activities for a variety of ages and uses simple and direct language to discuss Art with kids. The magazine was such a hit that students used it in Art class and then took it home.

The photography stood out at the 46th Art Show. Pinhole camera production, image development, techniques of shadow and light, among others, were some of the activities offered during the event. Additionally, Chapel students were able to talk and interact with the artists. “It is an honor to tell parents that their children were able to enjoy every single space provided by the Art Show. It has definitely reached our goal, says Adriana Rede.
